One person injured in rubber dinghy accident on Lake Camanche

According to the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office, one person was injured in a boating accident on Lake Camanche last week. The incident occurred on June 10 around 1 p.m. The sheriff’s office said a person on an inflatable tube was pulled by a rope connected to a watercraft. The person wrapped the rope around their arm and eventually the tow rope was sucked into the watercraft’s propulsion system. The person’s arm was caught in it. Officials said the person was able to keep their head above water while their friends called 911. According to the sheriff’s office, the Camance Recreaction Company marina manager was the first to arrive, cut the rope and freed the trapped person. The injured person was taken to a Valley hospital for treatment. Authorities have not released details on the extent of the injuries. After the incident, they offered a number of tips and urged people to be mindful of their safety in the water: Take a boating safety course. Be aware of your surroundings. Know the nautical rules of the road. Wear a life jacket. Never boat while intoxicated. Be aware of where lines are in the water and do not drive over them. Use floating water sport lines when towing people. If you feel something being sucked into the nozzle of a water ski jet, turn it off immediately or pull the kill switch. The sheriff’s office said a person on an inflatable tube was being towed by a rope connected to a watercraft. The person wrapped the rope around their arm and eventually the tow rope was sucked into the watercraft’s propulsion system. The person’s arm was caught in it.

Officials said the person managed to keep his head above water while his friends called 911.

According to the sheriff’s office, the marina manager of Camance Recreation Company was the first to arrive, cut the rope and freed the trapped person.

The injured person was taken to a hospital in the Valley for treatment. Authorities have not released any information on the extent of the injuries.

Following the incident, officials issued a number of tips and urged people to stay safe in the water:

  • Pay attention to your surroundings
  • Do you know the nautical traffic rules
  • Wear a life jacket
