Life imprisonment for father for raping his daughter, rules POCSO court in Assam

The Kamrup District Special Court for Political Education has sentenced a certain Kanchan Mahato to life imprisonment for raping his daughter.

Mahato was convicted under Section 6 of the POCSO Act and Section 323 of the Indian Penal Code and sentenced to a fine of Rs 10,000. Failure to pay the fine could result in an additional six months in jail, the court said.

In another case, a special court for protection of children from sexual offences (POCSO) in Kokrajhar, Assam today sentenced police constable Banjit Das to 20 years in prison for raping a minor girl.

The case dates back to 2021, when Das committed the crime.
