Man with gunshot wound is examined by police

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) – A man found with a gunshot wound to the leg led to an investigation by Wichita Falls Police this Saturday for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Police found the victim on the porch of a Jolene Street residence around 9 p.m. on June 1 after the reporting person alerted them to the area.

The victim was lying on the porch with a large pool of blood around his legs, in the middle of his left knee. The arrest affidavit states that the reporting person improvised a tourniquet using a belt to slow the blood loss. After placing a medical tourniquet on the man, the officer on the scene attempted to question the crowd surrounding the victim on the porch. They reportedly had no idea what had happened to him.

In addition to police, the Wichita Falls Fire Department and members of American Medical Response were on scene to treat the victim. The victim was transported to United Regional Health Care System, where he later underwent surgery for the gunshot wound to his inner left thigh. According to WFPD, his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

The police report on that investigation contains conflicting statements about what may have happened to the man. The victim said he was smoking a cigarette on the porch when he heard a gunshot and realized his leg had been shot. Another person at the scene said the victim may have arrived at the house already shot.

When police arrived, four juveniles were also found on the property. They were taken to Patsy’s House Children’s Advocacy Center for forensic questioning. The WFPD said this may indicate Child Protective Services’ presence in the case.

This incident remains under investigation and has not resulted in any arrests so far.
