LSU’s Javien Toviano arrested and suspended for allegedly secretly recording sex

LSU football player Javien Toviano turned himself in to authorities in East Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on Sunday on charges of video voyeurism.

According to an arrest warrant, 19-year-old Toviano of Arlington, Texas, is accused of filming himself having sexual intercourse with a woman without her consent.

Video voyeurism can be punished: it can result in up to one year in prison and a fine. Offenders who film someone in their home, a bathroom or a dressing room without the offender’s knowledge can be fined.

This also includes so-called “upskirting,” when someone secretly tries to take a photo under a woman’s clothing.

The woman told investigators she found videos of the two on Toviano’s iPad, recorded by a watch with a built-in camera that was attached to the bed, The Times-Picayune/The New Orleans Advocate reported.

The woman told investigators that Toviano had filmed her having sex without her consent in the past, and she told him she did not want to be filmed.

During an interrogation by the criminal police, Toviano admitted to having recorded the sexual encounters with a hidden camera, the arrest warrant states.

Bail information was not immediately available. It was not known whether Toviano has an attorney who could speak on his behalf.

Toviano “has been suspended from all team activities in accordance with department policy,” LSU said in a statement. “Out of respect for the legal process, we will have no further comment.”

As a freshman, he appeared in every game and started three times in the final five games. He finished his first season with 33 tackles and a pass defense.

LSU begins preseason practice on August 1, and Toviano was expected to compete for playing time at cornerback.
