Man and woman found dead in house in American Fork

AMERICAN FORK — A couple was found dead in their American Fork home Thursday afternoon.

American Fork Police Chief Cameron Paul said an initial call came in at 12:41 p.m. from a family member who found the couple at 1410 N 80 E in American Fork.

“It appears that both of them suffered at least one gunshot wound,” Paul said.

Paul said the family member reported the incident as a “murder followed by suicide,” but some “unique variables” were observed at the crime scene that they could not confirm or elaborate on.

“We will need the help of the coroner to find out exactly what happened,” he said.

Local neighbors described the couple as incredibly kind, loving and helpful. None of them wanted to be named, but said they had just played softball with the couple on Wednesday evening.

They were shocked by the news of their neighbors’ deaths and said it would shake their close-knit community.

That was something Paul repeated.

“I’m sure something like this is a shock and a trauma for the people who live in this neighborhood. It’s a beautiful area, lots of great people, great families,” he said.

Neighbors describe the woman as someone who is very involved with the youth of her local congregation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; she is an artist, singer and singing teacher.

They say the husband volunteered with the local search and rescue effort.

Several neighbors said the couple had six children, but police could not confirm the number or family dynamics.
