Phoenix police release video of fatal shooting

Video shows police shooting a man who pointed a gun at them while responding to a report of a robbery.

PHOENIX – According to Phoenix police, a man who was shot during a confrontation with police officers on June 2 was armed with a firearm and fired at the officers.

In a video released Friday, officers played a 911 call from a woman who said an armed man was trying to steal her boyfriend’s motorcycle. The woman explains in the call that she is sitting in a car in an alley with her son and a man, later identified as 27-year-old Joshua Main, is pointing the gun at her boyfriend.

When officers arrived in the area of 13th Street and Palm Lane, police said they found a man matching the suspect’s description sitting on a motorcycle and holding a gun. When officers got out of their patrol cars to confront Main, he pointed the gun at officers.

Two officers shot Main and killed him.

According to police, the bodycam footage of the incident does not capture the sound of the shooting or the moments leading up to the shooting because there is a 60-second delay in the start of the audio recording.
