First weather warning for extreme heat across Arizona

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — High pressure is over eastern Arizona, bringing us unusually hot temperatures. There are signs that it will move away, but not until Thursday.

As a result, we will see another day of very hot temperatures in Arizona. On Thursday, when the high subsides, temperatures will drop a few degrees.

A late-day low pressure system will circle northern Arizona on Friday. To the north, we’ll likely see a few showers and thunderstorms. We’ll definitely get some clouds, breezes, and cooler temperatures.

Temperatures in the Valley could drop by five to seven degrees. In northern Arizona, temperatures of 10 degrees or more are expected.

The smaller low pressure system will only bring us one day of relief. After that, another high pressure system will appear, pushing temperatures in the deserts to 43 to 44 degrees on Saturday and Sunday. But even that warming will be short-lived, as a longer-lasting low pressure system from the Pacific Northwest will bring cooler temperatures for most of next week.

While temperatures will continue to be above normal, we don’t have to worry about extreme heat warnings next week.

However, we are not entirely sure what the heat will look like over the weekend. Currently, it is possible that we could get another heat advisory for Phoenix on Saturday, but the models have not yet provided any clear results.
