Tenjutsu is a fast and stylish beat ’em up from the Dead Cells designer

Pow! Biff! Dead! Cells! Catch that plate I just threw at you! And this one! Oh no, there’s another plate coming your way, also from me! And look, you don’t have any hands free to catch this one! Eat the plate! You’ve been beaten up, but that’s okay. Here’s something nice to distract you from the pain. Tenjutsu is a new fluid and frenetic action game from Dead Cells designer Sébastien Benard.

Here is one of those trailers with a little cartoon at the beginning and then some real gameplay.

I got an email from Devolver titled “Press Release” but could only find the “Reply” button! It said that in Tenjutsu, you star as a renegade Yakuza “determined to defy her former comrades and loosen their grip on the Secret Garden City.” Here are some more fresh Tenjutsu facts, straight from the source:

Revealed today at the Devolver Direct presentation, this fast and fluid roguelike is the latest game from Sébastien Benard, designer of the acclaimed Dead Cells. Four powerful crime syndicates control the city with an iron fist. To defeat them, you must master a brutal combat system and build a diverse arsenal of weapons, upgrades and martial arts techniques to break their hold on the streets in a whirlwind of violence. When these sinister organizations fall to your fists, and you fight them in any order you choose, the city will be reborn.

The ruined streets come alive and bustling with life, and you can spend collected resources in shops and restaurants to aid your quest. Customize the city to suit your playstyle and unlock new weapons, combat moves, and areas to explore. Don’t take too much time though: the longer you spend preparing, the stronger your enemies will become. Tenjutsu will be coming to PC and consoles. Stay tuned for more announcements in the future!

Yes, I’m up for a bit of that wherever the roguelike roads take me. Reminds me a bit of Akane, which I’ll keep pushing on others. The official Tenjutsu website can be found here.
