A Regina man was arrested and charged after allegedly attacking two people with a knife while they were preparing for a garage sale in River Heights.

Just before noon on June 20, officers were called to 17th Avenue, where they found the victims.

“Police arrived to find two injured adults who had been attacked by an unknown man with a knife,” Regina police said in a statement. “Another victim was also attacked by the man without a weapon.”

Both victims were taken to hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, police said.

“My next door neighbor, the husband, was standing at the door, and his neighbor was next to him,” Carol Bell, who lives next door to the victims, told 980 CJME. “They were just standing there talking. Someone came down the street, pulled out a knife and stabbed them.”

Bell said the attack had shaken up the neighborhood, where many young families lived.

“I was so amazed to see all this,” she said. “It’s a very quiet area.”

Police asked the public to provide any surveillance and dashboard camera footage that might be helpful to the investigation and released a description of the suspect.

“The investigation led to a 34-year-old man who was arrested on July 2, 2024 and subsequently charged,” police said.

Vandal Chad Friday, a Regina resident, is now charged with two counts of attempted murder and additional counts of assault with a weapon. Police said he made his first court appearance Wednesday morning.
