Investigation underway after collision in Hampton County, 1 dead

Headlines Monday morning, June 24, via video: One person has died following a crash in Hampton County, South Carolina, Saturday night. State police say the crash occurred on U.S. 601 at Clifton Drive, eight miles south of Hampton, at 11:46 p.m. The 2007 Honda Accord, traveling north on U.S. 601, was attempting to pass another vehicle when it collided with a 2013 Chevy Impala traveling south. The Accord then left the road and overturned, police say. Police say the driver of the Accord was taken to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the Impala was not injured. The deceased’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
