1 dead and 9 injured in hit-and-run accident in Englewood overnight

CHICAGO – One person died and nine others were injured in a hit-and-run crash in Englewood overnight, police said.

According to police, a car was traveling at a high rate of speed in the 1600 block of West 59th Street around 9:30 p.m. Friday night when it collided with two cars at the intersection.


The driver of the speeding vehicle then exited his car and fled the scene of the accident. A male passenger in the speeding vehicle, who was approximately 20 years old, suffered blunt force injuries to his body and was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A 25-year-old woman in the speeding vehicle suffered blunt force injuries to her body and was taken to hospital in critical condition.

According to police, a 15-year-old girl suffered a fractured vertebra and is in critical condition at Comer Children’s Hospital. Another 16-year-old girl suffered a fractured femur and was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, where she is in good condition.

The vehicle was reportedly stolen and firearms were seized.

A total of six people from the other vehicles were taken to the local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
