“Incident” leads to police intervention and closure of Chicago-area shopping center

NORTH RIVERSIDE, Ill. (CBS) – Police responded to an “incident” at a western suburbs shopping center Wednesday afternoon that resulted in the mall being closed.

According to the North Riverside community Facebook page, police and firefighters responded to the incident at North Riverside Park Mall, but the post did not elaborate on the nature of the incident or whether anyone was injured.

Videos posted on social media appear to show first responders treating an injured man lying on his back in a parking lot outside the mall.

The North Riverside community said on its Facebook page that there was no immediate danger to the public, but urged visitors to avoid the area.

A mall spokesperson said it would remain closed for the rest of the day on Wednesday. The mall normally closes at 8 p.m. on weekdays.
