Dallas police shoot man who approached them with a knife – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

Dallas Police responded to a disturbance call at 5850 Beltline Road around 6:45 p.m. Friday evening.

According to Dallas police, preliminary investigations indicate that a man with a knife committed aggravated assault or domestic violence.

When officers arrived, they found a woman in a tent and the man with a knife next to the tent in a wooded area behind an apartment complex. Officers ordered the man to drop the knife, but he came toward officers with the knife, a report said.

Officers shot the man and took him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The woman was also taken to the hospital for minor injuries. According to a preliminary investigation, no police officers were injured.

NBC 5 also reported that animal control arrived on the scene, but Dallas police had no comment on whether animals were involved in the case.

The investigation is ongoing and Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia is expected to hold a press conference on Monday to release bodycam footage of the incident.
