Three injured in apparent knife attack on Japanese school bus in China

A man attacked a Japanese school bus in Suzhou, China, on Monday with what appeared to be a knife, seriously injuring a Chinese woman and a Japanese woman and her child, according to an official at the Japanese consulate in Shanghai.

The condition of the Chinese woman who was on the bus was critical, while the injuries of the Japanese woman and her preschool child, who were waiting at a bus stop, were not life-threatening, the official said.

Asked whether strained relations between Japan and China could be behind the attack, the official declined to comment, saying local authorities had already arrested the man and were investigating the case.
