PLAINSBORO – Another case of measles has been confirmed in New Jersey after a resident returned from a trip abroad.

This is the second confirmed case of measles in New Jersey in 2024. State health authorities warned the public about the highly contagious disease on Thursday morning.

They warned that a Somerset County resident had contracted measles after traveling to another country. Authorities said there was a measles outbreak in the country, which was not named.

According to the state Department of Health, this resident may have infected others with the disease.

Health officials warn that anyone who visited the emergency room at Penn Medicine Princeton Medical Center in Plainsboro between noon and 3:30 p.m. on June 1 may have been exposed to the vaccine.

If anyone has been in the facility during this period, it is recommended that they contact a doctor to discuss possible infection.

All exposed persons may continue to experience symptoms until June 26.

According to health authorities, contact tracing is being carried out. As of Wednesday, no spread has been detected.

Health officials said people who have not received their MMR vaccine are most at risk if they become infected, and two doses are the best protection against the disease.

Measles can cause serious complications such as pneumonia, brain swelling and miscarriages.
