Police: Man arrested after shooting near Mountain View

An 18-year-old man was arrested Tuesday after he shot at a Meridian residence and tried to flee from officers, according to police.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — An 18-year-old man was arrested Tuesday after police said he shot at a Meridian residence and tried to flee from officers.

Meridian police said they responded to a report of shots fired on East Copper Point Street near Mountain View High School and Gordon Harris Park on Tuesday. After the call was dispatched, the school underwent a hall check.

Police learned the suspect, identified as Boone Nickerson of Meridian, may have shot at or into a residence on the street. MPD said Nickerson was seen by witnesses entering an apartment after the shooting.

Nickerson then ran into the backyard of the home and jumped a fence to escape from officers, but was eventually arrested and taken into custody. Meridian police said they set up a cordon around the home.

Empty shell casings from a 9mm handgun were found on the street and sidewalk nearby. Tuesday’s news release said a handgun was found in the apartment where Nickerson originally lived.

Police said Nickerson was booked into the Ada County Jail on charges of unlawful discharge of a firearm at a dwelling, inhabited building, vehicle or mobile home and negligent possession of marijuana.
