Missing Jackson child found one day after MBI alert

The Jackson Police Department announced Wednesday afternoon that 9-year-old Jaylan Smith of Jackson was found in good health less than 24 hours after the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation activated a “missing and endangered” alert.

Smith disappeared from the 3100 block of Charleston Drive in Hinds County around 6 p.m. Tuesday evening, a few hours before the MBI issued the warning.

The MBI alert said Smith’s family members had indicated he was suffering from a medical condition that could impair his judgment.

The JPD press release on Wednesday stated that JPD, the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation found the child after several hours of searching.

Medical staff are currently examining Smith. The JPD news release said Smith appeared to be in good health.

The investigation into Smith’s disappearance is ongoing. Anyone with information about the case can call Crime Stoppers at 601-355-8477 or JPD at 601-960-1234.
