CAAM extends temporary suspension of SAS’s Air Operator Certificate

KUALA LUMPUR (June 12): The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) has extended the temporary suspension of the Air Operator Certificate (AOC) of Systematic Aviation Services Sdn Bhd (SAS) by 52 days, effective from June 10 until the end of validity of SAS’s AOC on July 31, 2024.

The temporary suspension is in accordance with Regulation 193(3) of the Civil Aviation Rules 2016.

CAAM Managing Director Datuk Captain Norazman Mahmud said that during the suspension period, SAS is expected to work diligently towards complying with all regulatory requirements and timeline to obtain the relevant approval from the Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM) and safely resume operations.

In a statement on Wednesday, he said that as the technical regulator of the Malaysian aviation industry, CAAM oversees the technical aspects of airlines to ensure that all safety and security standards are met.

Detailed safety audits are carried out to assess the performance and competence of air carriers in the areas of commercial air transport, operations and airworthiness.

“Among the key aspects assessed when issuing and renewing an AOC is the air carrier’s ability to conduct safe operations in accordance with the provisions of the operational specification,” Norazman said.

It was previously reported that the CAAM had confirmed the three-month suspension of SAS’s AOC after the MAVCOM failed to renew SAS’s flight authorization.
