Passenger arrested for running naked through the plane during the flight

According to the Australian Federal Police (AFP), a Virgin Australia flight had to turn around on Monday evening after a passenger ran naked through the cabin and knocked over a flight attendant.

VA696 departed Perth as planned and was about an hour en route to Melbourne when the incident occurred. According to FlightAware, the pilots were forced to turn around and return to Perth.

“The crew took appropriate steps in accordance with protocol” to deal with the “disruptive passenger,” a Virgin Australia spokesperson told USA TODAY in an email statement.

When the plane landed safely back in Perth, AFP officers were called to pick up the passenger.

“AFP officers have arrested a man after he allegedly ran naked through the aircraft mid-flight and knocked a crew member to the ground,” an AFP spokesperson told USA TODAY in an email.

The passenger is currently being held at a local hospital for assessment and is due to appear in Perth Magistrates Court on June 14, but charges have not yet been finalised, AFP said.

One of the passengers on board the flight told Guardian Australia: “All of a sudden I heard someone running down the aisle. The guy was naked and rushing to the front of the plane.” The passenger also said there was “a lot of screaming and yelling.”
