Family dispute near Truist Arena prompts NKU to issue safety alert

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Kentucky – A domestic dispute prompted Northern Kentucky University to send a safety alert to students and residents near Truist Arena Tuesday night.

NKU said in a news release that police responded to Nunn Drive around 7 p.m. after receiving a report of a man with a knife. When they arrived, officers found three people involved in a domestic dispute on their way to Colerain High School’s graduation ceremony at Truist Arena.

The school issued a Norse Alert to the campus community saying, “A dangerous situation has been reported at Truist Arena. Find shelter and lock the doors. Further information follows. Avoid the area.”

The university said a man was treated for hand injuries after apparently taking a knife from someone. No one has been arrested and a police investigation into the dispute is ongoing.

NKU said none of the people involved were part of Colerain’s graduating class of 2024. No one on NKU’s campus or in the arena was in danger, the university said.

Within 15 minutes, NKU sent out a second notice alerting the public that the situation had been contained and normal activities could resume.
