Driver from Nagpur sexually abuses girl: Mercedes logo, cell phone video

Mercedes logo, cell phone video: How police caught a driver molesting a girl in Nagpur

When we questioned the man after showing him the video, he admitted to the crime, police said.

Nagpur:

On Wednesday afternoon, a man molested a schoolgirl in his autorickshaw in a remote area on the way to her house from school in Nagpur. The motorist was arrested after a video of the incident taken by a local was passed on to police.

In the shocking video you could see how the defendant tried to pull the 15-year-old towards him and forcibly kiss her. The girl turned away from him, gestured for him to start his car and showed him the video. The next shot shows him starting his car and walking away from the picture.

After seeing the video, police went to the area where the incident occurred. After searching the CCTV footage, they saw the driver but his car number was not visible in any of the clips. But the officers saw a Mercedes logo on the vehicle, which led them to the defendant.

“The car had two Mercedes logos on two sides. We went to a nearby auto repair shop where we found the vehicle. When we questioned the man after showing him the video, he admitted to the crime,” said police inspector Laxman Kendre.

The police officer said they determined the girl’s identity based on the school name written on her uniform.

The parents are shocked by the incident as the accused was known to them and have not yet lodged a formal complaint. “Though the parents did not file a complaint, we ourselves filed an FIR,” he said.

“When we called the girl’s parents, they were shocked as the driver was known to them and he took the girl to school every day,” Mr Kendre said.

He also urged parents to keep a close eye on the behavior of their teenage children. “By keeping an eye on behavior, these incidents can be avoided,” he said.

The inspector also recommended that parents file a complaint in these cases. “There is no reason to be afraid,” he said.
