FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A person is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle at a Fresno intersection, Fresno police said.

Officers said they responded to a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in the area of ​​Shaw and Valentine Avenue around 10:30 a.m.

According to police, a vehicle was traveling eastbound in the second lane of Shaw Avenue with a green light when a pedestrian stepped into the roadway in the crosswalk. The driver was unable to stop or swerve and struck the pedestrian.

According to investigators, the driver remained at the scene and the pedestrian was taken to a local hospital in critical but stable condition.
