Student among five in custody for alleged gang rape in Tawau

KOTA KINABALU: A fifth-grade student was among five people remanded in custody for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl in Tawau district recently.

Tawau OCPD Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin said the five suspects, aged between 17 and 20, were nabbed at around 11am on Monday (July 8) after the alleged victim’s mother filed a report.

According to the report, he said the victim, who knew all the suspects, had been raped three times since June.

The report also said the boys broke into her room in her house between midnight and 3 a.m. and sexually abused her.

It was learnt that they threatened to tell the whole school about the incident if they did not give in to their demands.

The alleged rapes are said to have taken place on June 13, June 20 and July 5.

ACP Jasmin said the victim told her mother that the suspects constantly bullied her at school before admitting that they also raped her.

Tawau Magistrate Don Stiwin Malanjum allowed the suspects to be remanded in custody following an application by investigating officer Insp Voon Yu Wei.

The fifth-grade student would remain in custody until July 13, while the others would remain in custody until July 16.
