Ghaziabad (UP), June 25 (PTI) – A court in this Uttar Pradesh district on Tuesday sentenced a man to 10 years in prison for raping a girl in 2017.

Deepika Tiwari, special judge of a court dealing with cases filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, also imposed a fine of Rs 27,000 on Jai Gopali alias Kaku, who raped his minor sister-in-law in Sahibabad district on September 29, 2017.

The girl, an 8th grade student, was alone at home when she was raped, said special public prosecutor Utkarsh Vats.

The prisoner had also threatened to kill her.

The girl’s parents registered an FIR at Sahibabad police station under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 376 (rape), and under the POCSO Act.

The court has ordered the rape victim to pay the fine. If the fine is not paid, the convicted person will have to spend another three months in prison.
