Teen Killed in Shooting at Drive-In Dinner Show; Suspects in custody

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – An adult and a juvenile are facing charges in connection with a shooting at an illegal car show last weekend that left a teenager dead and four other people injured.

According to a statement from the Greater St. Louis Major Case Squad, Bridgeton police responded to Highway 141/Earth City Expressway and Corporate Woods Drive around 8:30 p.m. Saturday after receiving a report of a sideshow illegal street event with car stunts) around 100 vehicles drove recklessly on the highway.


The Major Case Squad alleges that when officers arrived, the vehicles attempted to flee and multiple shots were fired at the officers.

At least five people were injured, one of whom was hospitalized in critical condition. That person, Gerardo Perez of East St. Louis, died at the hospital from his injuries. Perez was 15.

Bridgeton Police requested assistance from the Major Case Squad in the investigation.

Police believe Garron Stevenson and a 17-year-old juvenile fired the shots that evening. Both were taken into custody.

The St. Louis County District Attorney’s Office charged Stevenson with second-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon, three counts of first-degree assault and four counts of armed criminal action. Stevenson remains in jail on a $1 million cash bond.

The 17-year-old faces a charge of second-degree murder.

Additionally, police allege that the show moved to New Halls Ferry Road near Interstate 270 that night. The group blocked off part of the road. When officers arrived at this new location, they saw a blue 2017 Dodge Charger driving erratically, hitting other cars and nearly hitting pedestrians.

Officers attempted to arrest the driver while the vehicle was stuck in traffic. However, police allege the Charger driver accelerated and hit a police officer, pushing him against another car.

The driver attempted to flee in the Charger and then fled on foot. The driver struck another officer and was eventually taken into custody.

District attorneys charged Hunter with felony attempted assault, armed criminal action and resisting arrest. Hunter remains in the hospital. Upon his release, Hunter will be held on a $500,000 cash bond.
