Woman sexually assaulted in Memphis public library, police said

MEMPHIS, Tennessee – A man was arrested after sexually assaulting a woman in the restroom at the Memphis Public Library, according to Memphis police.

Kevin Standberry, 35, is accused of sexual assault and attempted rape. His bail was set at $100,000.

On Monday, the victim went to the bathroom at 33 South Front Street. According to police, Standberry went behind her and began kissing her and touching her breasts.

The victim escaped and went to another part of the library.

However, she went back to the bathroom to get her things. Standberry followed her in and allegedly exposed himself.

According to Memphis police, Standbery grabbed the victim and attempted to pull down her pants to initiate sex. The victim broke free and fled.

A security officer on site arrested Standberry and called the police.

Kevin Standberry is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday morning.
