MPs want to suspend Ugochinyere for politicising his supervisory role

The House of Representatives has moved for the suspension of the Chairman of the Committee on Petroleum Downstream Industry, Ikenga Ugochinyere, for politicising his oversight role in Rivers State.

Plateau State MP Yusuf Gagdi, who moved a motion for personal explanation in plenary in Abuja on Thursday, informed the House that his privileges as a member of the House had been revoked.

He said some media reported that about 50 lawmakers paid a solidarity visit to Rivers State Governor Similaye Fubara during their visit to the state.

He added that such a statement by Ugochinyere was in bad taste.

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Kalu, who presided over the plenary session, said the House leadership would look into the report.

He added that the matter would be referred to the Privileges and Ethics Committee for further investigation if necessary.
