Wolcott police arrest man accused of abandoning nursing dog and selling her puppies – NBC Connecticut

Wolcott police have arrested a man accused of abandoning a nursing dog on the side of the road and selling her puppies because they were too young to be taken from her.

A passerby saw the young mother dog running up Spindle Hill at the intersection with Mad River Road in April, Wolcott Dog Pound reported on Facebook, and that sparked an investigation.

According to police, 27-year-old Jose Solivan of Waterbury is accused of abandoning the mother, Mia, on the side of the road.

Five of the seven puppies have been rescued and are doing well, police said.

Solivan was charged with animal cruelty and making a false statement and turned himself in to Wolcott police after learning of the warrant.

He was banned from owning any animals, police said.

He is due in court on Thursday.
