Bane lay down next to McManus to say goodbye. “This boy here has finished his journey with us on Earth,” McManus said, patting Bane on the head. In June 2022, Bane was diagnosed with degenerative myelopathy. He was forced to retire after six years with the St. Francis Police Department. At this point, Bane had six months to live. Almost two years later, Bane died at the age of 12. He was the St. Francis Police Department’s first K9. Detective McManus founded the K9 Bane Hero Foundation in 2023 during Bane’s battle with DM. Donations to this foundation go towards supporting retired K9s. “He wouldn’t want us to cry for him,” McManus said. “He wants us to continue the fight, never give up and continue to work hard to ensure his legacy and take care of other K9s who are retiring and need a little more help along the way.” McManus thanked Bane’s followers for their help with Bane’s medical bills and his biggest supporters. Two months ago, Bane received the prestigious Animals in War and Peace Medal of Merit in Washington, DC. I will be yours, faithful and faithful, until the last beat of my life.” Heart. – Agnes Repplier
