Texas refugee Leo Acosta Sanchez was illegally arrested in the USA

US News

An international fugitive from Mexico living illegally in the United States and wanted by Interpol for murder cried as she was arrested in Texas last week.

Leo Acosta Sanchez, 21, was arrested on May 24 when she was stopped during a routine traffic stop as part of a collaboration between local and federal authorities.

“During a routine patrol, alert Splendora Police Officers identified the wanted individual driving a vehicle and immediately called for backup,” the department said Saturday.

“Upon the arrival of additional units, a traffic stop was conducted, which led to the immediate arrest of the driver, identified as Leo Acosta Sanchez,” it said.

Authorities knew that Sanchez lived in the area, was wanted by Interpol and knew her travel habits.

“The suspect, who was illegally residing in our state and country, was known to commute between the city and her residence in Terrenos.”

Terrenos is a residential community that offers affordable land for sale outside of Houston.

“As part of a joint operation with the Department of Homeland Security, Ms. Sanchez was taken into custody to face charges related to the crimes allegedly committed,” the department said.

Authorities have not disclosed the exact charges against Sanchez, nor details of the alleged murder.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) told Fox News Digital that Sanchez is originally from Mexico.

“Acosta entered the United States as a nonimmigrant on August 20, 2023, and violated the conditions of her entry,” federal law enforcement said. “She remains in ICE custody pending the completion of her immigration proceedings.”

In photos shared by Splendora police, Sanchez can be seen sitting in the back seat of a patrol car, apparently crying, with her hands handcuffed behind her back.

“The Splendora Police Department commends the swift and effective cooperation with our federal partners in apprehending this dangerous individual,” the Splendora Police Department said.
