Like Twitter, X will allow pornography and adult nudity under an updated policy

X (formerly Twitter) now officially allows its users to post, view, and share adult nudity and sexual content under new formalized policies.

According to the updated policy, Elon Musk’s social media platform will allow the consensual production and distribution of adult pornographic content as long as it is “properly labeled and not prominently displayed.”

“Sexual expression, whether visual or written, can be a legitimate form of artistic expression,” the platform’s policy states. “We believe in the autonomy of adults to engage with and create content that reflects their own beliefs, desires, and experiences, including those related to sexuality.”

The platform will continue to prohibit pornographic content that is exploitative, non-consensual, or promotes objectification, obscene behavior, or the sexualization or harm of minors. It will also prevent the use of adult content for profile pictures, banners, and other publicly visible places.

The directive applies to AI and animated content

X allows AI-generated, photographic or animated nudity or adult sexual content according to its policies.

The company defines “adult content” as all depictions of “full or partial nudity, including close-ups of genitals, buttocks, or breasts.” Explicit or implied sexual behavior or simulated acts such as sexual intercourse are also considered adult content.

Users under the age of 18 or viewers who do not provide a date of birth on their profile will not be able to click on posts marked as adult content, according to the policy.

Users must add content warnings to adult content

X requires accounts that regularly post adult content on the platform to adjust their media settings to automatically add a content warning to their posts. Content warnings require users to confirm that they are about to see a NSFW post.
