Yes, we will be monitoring for storms the rest of the day and overnight. The good news is that these will not be large-scale storms all at once. The bad news is that storms occur at almost every point, and any storm that results in them can be severe. MAIN DANGER: SOME HEAVY RAIN. I don’t think flooding is a major problem, but sitting under heavy rain long enough could cause minor flooding. Damaging winds, although the biggest concern today is that wind gusts could reach speeds of 60 to 70 miles per hour. HAIL IS POSSIBLE, BUT A TORNADO THREAT IS POSSIBLE AT THE LOW END OF THE SCALE. But at the lower end of the scale, heavy rain and damaging winds are really our main concern. So again, many of us are sober at this point. A thunderstorm rolled through Mercer County. Ashley Dougherty, meteorologist with Action Weather in Pittsburgh, said Wednesday was the first of two consecutive severe weather alert days for Pittsburgh. Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms could begin as early as midday on Wednesday and last until the early evening. There will be a pause in activity Wednesday evening, but as a cold front approaches, showers and isolated storms will hit the area again after midnight and into early Thursday morning. This rain will taper off around 7am and an isolated shower is possible. The majority of the rain will fall along Interstate 70 to the south Thursday afternoon/early evening.
