Man arrested after punching police officers during argument at Branford restaurant – NBC Connecticut

A man was arrested after he allegedly punched two police officers and leg-locked one of them following an argument at a Branford restaurant.

Authorities said they were called to the stand on South Montowese Street just after 11:30 p.m. Friday.

A man in his 50s was asked by management to leave the building but he refused, police said. While the man’s friend was being restrained, he allegedly assaulted an officer, striking him several times in the back of the head and neck.

Another police officer and a restaurant employee took the man to the ground, but he continued to resist, police said.

A third officer jumped in and attempted to lift the man from the ground, but he was struck in the face. After taking the second officer to the ground, he placed him in a leg lock.

He tried to bite police officers who told him to stop and tightened his grip before being beaten by officers because he still refused to comply, according to authorities.

Police said a Taser was brandished but not deployed because at some point he began to comply with commands. All three officers were taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The man is facing three charges of assaulting a police officer, breach of the peace and trespassing, among other things. He was held on bail but was later released.

Anyone with video of the incident is asked to forward it to Detective Lt. Eula at [email protected] or 203-481-4241.
