Rockford police have arrested a man for murder in 2023 | MyStateline

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) – Police have arrested 25-year-old Martavius ​​Young for a suspected 2023 murder.

On July 15, 2023, at approximately 3:35 a.m., officers responded to the Burnham Lofts for a report of gunshots. Officers found 24-year-old Myles Seward with multiple gunshot wounds and transported him to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.


According to a press release from the city of Rockford, police learned that a party had taken place on the roof and a verbal argument escalated into shots being fired at the victim.

After an extensive investigation, authorities identified Young as a suspect and arrested him on a June 11 warrant.

Authorities found Young in the 6500 block of East State Street and took him into custody. Officers said he was in possession of a handgun when he was arrested.

Young is charged with first-degree murder, two counts of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and possession of a firearm without a FOID card.
