Local law enforcement agencies show support for Minneapolis police and fallen officer

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) — Minneapolis police officer Jamal Mitchell was killed and several others were killed or injured in a tragic incident Thursday.

Following the mass shooting, local law enforcement agencies shared their condolences on Facebook and mourned with the Minneapolis Police Department (MPD).

The Rochester Police Department (RPD) posted a statement from Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey on its Facebook page, along with an MPD badge with a black band around it.

“He (Minneapolis police officer Jamal Mitchell) was a hero, a son, a father, a fiancé, a police officer dedicated to protecting and serving,” Mayor Frey said.

The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office also posted a message offering thoughts and prayers to the MPD and adding a black banner to its logo.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the police officers and civilians shot and injured in Minneapolis tonight, the entire Minneapolis Police Department, and the families and friends affected by this tragic event.”

Dodge County Sheriff Scott Rose issued a statement regarding the tragic events that claimed Mitchell’s life.

“Last night, the heroes of the Minneapolis Police Department responded to a shooting. While attempting to help the injured, Officer Jamal Mitchell and another officer were shot. Officer Mitchell, who had only been with the MPD for two years, succumbed to his injuries. I’m not sure there has ever been a time when it was more dangerous to be a police officer in Minnesota – especially in Minneapolis. Please keep Jamal’s family and the Minneapolis PD in your thoughts and pray for us as we prepare to say goodbye to another hero.”
