Former child star Benji Gregory – the actor best known for his role in the hit 1980s sitcom ALF – has died at the age of 46.

His sister, Rebecca Pfaffinger, said in a social media post that he was found dead in his car last month next to his service dog.

She told celebrity news site TMZ that he fell asleep in his car in an Arizona parking lot and died of heat stroke. His dog, Hans, also died.

“It is with a heavy heart that my family must suffer a loss far too soon,” she wrote on Facebook.

“Ben was a great son, brother and uncle. He was fun to be around and often made us laugh.

“When I look through his stuff, I still laugh at little videos or notes from him, and sometimes I have to cry.

“My brother Ben was found in his car along with his beloved service dog Hans, who passed away on June 13th.

“We assume that he went there on the evening of the 12th to deposit some arrears.

“(Found in his car) and never got out of the car to do this. He fell asleep and died of heat stroke in the car.”

She told TMZ that her brother suffers from depression and bipolar disorder and has a sleep disorder that often keeps him awake for days.
