Church’s Chicken employee killed after argument with drive-in customers; no arrests made

A fight between a fast-food employee and a customer ended fatally in western Tennessee on Monday evening when the customer shot an employee after an argument, according to police.

The fatal shooting occurred shortly before 9:10 p.m. at Church’s Chicken in Memphis, officials said.

According to police, officers responded to a shooting at the store on Park Avenue, about six miles southeast of downtown Memphis, at 9:10 p.m.

Arriving officers found a female victim with at least one gunshot wound and transported her to a hospital where she was later pronounced dead, officials said in a news release.

Shooting at Church’s Chicken after argument

A preliminary investigation by police revealed that the victim was working at the store when a woman in an SUV drove into the drive-thru and argued with the employee.

It was not immediately known what the couple had argued about.

“The teal SUV drove out of the parking lot and the victim left the store to get some fresh air,” police wrote in the news release. “A few moments later, a gunshot was heard and the teal SUV was seen speeding out of the parking lot on video.”

Shortly thereafter, the shooting victim was found in the parking lot.

As of Tuesday, police had not released the victim’s name or age.

Police described the person caught on camera arguing with the employee as a woman with purple hair who was driving a teal compact SUV.

As of Tuesday, no arrests had been made in the case; police said the investigation was ongoing.
