South Gibson SRO rescues 2 people after car crash | News

NEWTON COUNTY, Ind. (WEVV) – A South Gibson School liaison officer is being praised after helping two people who were seriously injured in a car accident.

According to Dan Lienemann, one of his SROs and Chief South Gibson School Resource Officer, Fred Schleter was on his way back from a training session in Michigan City when he had a serious accident at the intersection of Indian 14 and Highway 41. He says Schleter was the first on the scene.

Schleter had to cut the passenger side airbags and cut the seat belts of those trapped in the vehicle while calling for help. SRO Schleter then provided the necessary medical assistance to stabilize the occupants.

Thanks to Schleter’s quick intervention, two people were able to be flown away from the scene of the accident by rescue helicopter and have a chance of surviving the accident.
