Former NFL player faces abuse allegations

LOGANSPORT, Ind. – Indiana State Police have issued a Silver Alert for the son of a former Colts player after his parents backed out of an agreement to turn the teenager in to police. He has been missing for 12 days.

Indiana State Police are asking for the public’s help in locating Bryson Muir, a 14-year-old boy last seen two weeks ago in Ohio who may be a victim of abuse at the hands of his parents. He is the son of former Colts defensive lineman Daniel Muir, who is now the focus of the investigation.

Bryson is described by ISP as a 6’2″ black male, 185 lbs., with black hair and brown eyes. The child was last seen with a black eye and was wearing an orange Under Armour shirt and blue jeans.

Following a report from the child’s grandmother, described below, an investigation was recently launched into abuse involving Bryson’s parents.

Meeting point and Silver Alert

On Friday afternoon, the ISP issued an official Silver Alert for Bryson, who is still considered missing and in danger.

According to police, Daniel and Kristen Muir had agreed to bring their son to a meeting with ISP investigators at the Peru Post. The meeting was scheduled for Friday at noon, ISP said.

However, around 11 a.m., the Muirs reportedly backed out of the agreement, signaling, according to ISP, that they were not willing to cooperate with police.

Police urge anyone with information on the whereabouts of Bryson or his parents to contact the Indiana State Police Department in Peru at (800) 382-0689 or call 911.

“He is our primary concern, his well-being and safety are of paramount importance,” said ISP Captain Ron Galaviz.

Grandma’s report

Bryson was last seen by family members without his parents on June 16 after he left his grandmother’s home outside Cleveland, Ohio, with his mother, Kristen Muir, in a white 2015 Chevrolet Suburban.

The child’s grandmother told police that the child had a black eye and was possibly being abused by his parents.

Captain Galaviz said only a few minutes passed between the time the son and mother left the house and the time local police stopped their Suburban.

However, officials said Bryson was not found in the car with his mother.

“It was only minutes, it wasn’t a very long period of time at all,” Galaviz said. “But during that time Bryson was not found. We don’t know where he went.”

Investigations against the parents

Two days later, the Cass County Child Protective Services asked ISP detectives to investigate allegations of domestic violence against Bryson at a home in Logansport after the agency was unable to reach the family.

As of Thursday, ISP had not been able to reach the Muir parents, despite visiting the family’s home in the 1700 block of West U.S. 24 in Logansport several times.

Then, on June 27, Captain Galaviz said investigators had made contact with Daniel and Kristen Muir and that they were “beginning to cooperate with the ISP’s investigation.” However, Bryson was still nowhere to be found.

Logansport Estate, Possible Cult Connections

State police said the Muirs’ property in Logansport is owned by the Servant Leader’s Foundation, a nonprofit religious group. The Chevy Suburban Kristen Muir is driving also belongs to the Servant Leader’s Foundation.

FOX59/CBS4 crews recently visited the home, which is located on a remote two-lane road in rural Logansport and is mostly surrounded by trees. A long gravel driveway is sectioned off near the road by a fence marked with several signs reading “No Trespassing” and “Private Property.”

There are no signs outside the house with the Servant Leader’s Foundation name, but there is one just inside the fence that says “Welcome to Straitway Indiana Goshen.” A crest on the sign shows an “S” on a shield with two swords forming an X behind the shield.

A Google search for Straitway will lead you to Straitway Truth Ministries, a Tennessee-based religious group that some online have labeled a cult. On the Straitway Truth Ministries website, the group states that it is a “nation of Hebrew Israelites who keep the commandments and obey Yah (God) and our Savior Jesus Christ.”

Straitway’s official YouTube page features a video posted four months ago that shows a man who appears to be former Colts defensive tackle Daniel Muir preaching from a stage to a cheering crowd.

In the video, Muir holds up a picture of himself and fellow former Colts defensive end Robert Mathis as they talk about a place called Goshen.

As of Friday, 2:45 p.m., no further information had been provided by the ISP.
