Man shot by police in PRP dies in hospital; The LMPD Public Integrity Unit’s investigation is ongoing

The man shot by police Friday night in Pleasure Ridge Park has died, according to Louisville Metro Police. An LMPD spokesman said the man died early Sunday morning at UofL Hospital as a result of his gunshot wounds. Police said they were called to Crawford Avenue just before 11 p.m. Friday for reports of a man armed with a knife. When they got there, LMPD said the man refused to put the knife down. They said he then approached the officers and they attempted to subdue him using “less-lethal means.” They said none of them worked to stop him. and then they shot him. He was hit. “After firing his firearms, the suspect continued to hold officers at a distance with the knife, preventing them from taking immediate, life-saving measures,” an LMPD spokesperson said. “Ultimately, our officers were able to disarm the suspect and perform life-saving measures on him.” Police said he was still alert and conscious when he was taken to the hospital, police said. On Sunday morning they announced that he had died. LMPD’s Public Integrity Unit is continuing its investigation into this incident. It is LMPD’s policy to release body camera footage within 10 business days.
