Severe storms possible in Louisville on Monday; Current schedule

The WHAS11 Weather Impact Team is tracking storms that may bring flash flooding and strong wind gusts to central Kentucky and southern Indiana.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Monday is a WHAS11 Weather Alert Day as there is a threat of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. The developing thunderstorms will most likely bring very heavy rain and strong winds (gusts up to 55 to 65 mph).

Some hail or an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out, but our greatest concern is the threat of locally heavy rain and strong winds.

Timed coordination

The storms will move through Monday evening, likely beginning around sunset. Over time, these storms will produce heavy rainfall and may bring flash flooding and wind gusts between 55 and 65 mph.

Threats

The Louisville area is under a Level 1 or 2 severe thunderstorm threat Monday evening. This means our area is likely to be hit by heavy rain, strong winds, and frequent lightning strikes.



Monday night’s thunderstorms will bring large amounts of precipitation that may cause localized flooding, especially in river valleys and streams in our area. Remember to turn back or you will drown! Never drive or walk across flooded roads.

Our forecasts indicate additional thunderstorms will bring more rain throughout the week. Rainfall from some of these severe thunderstorms could be as high as 1 to 2 inches per hour!
