Teen hospitalized after ‘unfortunate accident’ in Egg Harbor, New Jersey

Authorities in Egg Harbor Township say there was an “unfortunate accident” between a 15-year-old girl on a bicycle and a tow truck on a busy road Wednesday afternoon.

The scene occurred in the area of ​​Ocean Heights Avenue and Blackman Road in the Scullville neighborhood around 4:45 p.m.

An updated news release from the Egg Harbor Township Police Department said a tow truck was traveling northbound on Ocean Heights Avenue in slow-moving traffic just south of Blackman Road, while the teen was riding her bicycle on the side of the road in the same direction.

As she stood next to the truck, she lost her balance and fell off her bike.

When she crashed onto the road, she fell onto the path and under the rear tires of the tow truck, according to authorities, who also said there was no contact between the truck and the bike before the accident.

The unidentified teenager remains at Cooper Hospital in Camden due to her injuries.

Police say their investigation revealed no impairments or other factors that would indicate the tow truck driver was negligent or reckless at the time of the accident.
