Extreme heat and humidity all weekend long

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Weather days of the first warning remains in effect today and tomorrow, bringing more intense heat and humidity as well as some severe storms.

Today will be one of the most uncomfortable days of the year due to the heat and humidity. The air temperature will rise to over 35 degrees in the afternoon. The heat index – or better known as “feeling temperature” – will be between 40 and 43 degrees. A Heat warning applies to our region from 12:00 to 20:00

In addition to the heat, we could see some sudden showers this afternoon, mainly east of I-65. Late tonight, some thunderstorms could develop from the northwest and move into the midstate overnight. The main concerns are gusty winds and heavy downpours.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue throughout Sunday afternoon and evening. Although temperatures will be a little cooler at just over 35 degrees, it will still be very humid in the afternoon and feel almost like 38 degrees.

All that rain will cool us down and lower the humidity significantly through Monday. Highs will be in the 30s under bright, sunny skies. Lows will also be cooler, ranging between 15 and 16 degrees.

On Tuesday and Wednesday it will be warmer again, temperatures will rise again to over 35 degrees and the heat index will be over 38 degrees again.

The Fourth of July will remain hot, with some showers and thunderstorms during the day and evening. There is currently a 50% chance of rain. Keep checking back as the holiday approaches to see how the rain will affect fireworks displays in the area.
