Passenger killed in crash on I-55 in Lincoln County

LINCOLN COUNTY, Mississippi (WJTV) – A passenger died after a crash on Interstate 55 in Lincoln County.

The accident occurred on Thursday, June 6, shortly before 8:15 a.m.

Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) officials said a 2003 Chevrolet Express van was traveling north on I-55 when it collided with a concrete barrier after its left rear tire came loose.

The passenger, 51-year-old Alfonso E. Muraira of Matamoros, Mexico, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation by MHP.
