OPD investigates two possible hate crime cases

The Oakland Police Department (OPD) is currently investigating two incidents of vandalism. The first incident occurred on June 21, 2024, shortly before 11:30 p.m.; the second incident occurred on July 6, 2024, shortly after midnight. In both cases, which occurred in the 3000 block of Lakeshore Avenue, an unknown suspect or suspects were observed throwing a large object at the synagogue window.

A police report has been filed and both incidents are being investigated as possible hate crimes. Members of the OPD leadership team and command staff have already met with the synagogue’s rabbi and will continue to stay in contact with him.
