“Dangerous pervert” jailed for raping a woman

A “dangerous pervert” who raped a defenseless woman in her bed has been jailed.

Kamran Rashid, 40, was sentenced to 14 years in prison for sexual assault.

In November 2021, he sexually assaulted a woman in a house in Blackburn.

Rashid, formerly of Cheetham Street in Blackburn, Lancashire, was already a registered sex offender and was sentenced to nine years and nine months in prison at Preston Crown Court.

“Horrible crime”

When the victim woke up, she found Rashid lying in the same bed as her before performing sexual acts on her without her consent, Lancashire Police said.

She was so traumatized that she fled the scene of the accident.

Rashid was arrested later that day and charged with rape.

In April, he pleaded guilty to sexual assault by penetration in the same court.

Judge Philip Parry described Rashid as a dangerous offender and imposed a suspended sentence of four years and three months in addition to the prison sentence.

DC Sarah Fyans, of Lancashire Police, said: “Rashid is a dangerous pervert who committed this heinous offence against a truly vulnerable young woman.

“He knew exactly what he had done, but made the victim wait until the day before she was due to testify in court before he entered his guilty plea.

“The victim in this case has shown incredible strength and resilience throughout the legal process. I want to express my admiration for the courage she has shown.”
