Redwood City man arrested for car theft in San Mateo County

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CALIFORNIA — A Redwood City man was arrested on suspicion of auto theft after he allegedly entered an occupied vehicle Saturday, forced the driver to make a U-turn at an intersection and then fled, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred around 6 p.m. Saturday in North Fair Oaks in the unincorporated community of Redwood City, the sheriff’s office said.

The 27-year-old suspect, who is on probation for criminal threatening, according to the sheriff’s office, got into the passenger seat and forced the driver to make a U-turn at the intersection of Middlefield Road and Pacific Avenue before jumping out of the car and fleeing, the sheriff’s office said.

Officers located the suspect at the corner of Fourth Avenue and Middlefield Road. He was arrested and booked into Maguire Correctional Facility on charges of auto theft, kidnapping and parole violation.
