Woman raped in Scottish nightclub: Police search for white van ‘linked’ to attack

A woman was reportedly raped in a parking lot near a Scottish nightclub.

Police were called to the incident on Keith Street in Hamilton after receiving reports of a serious sexual assault at around 3am on Saturday, May 25. The attack is said to have occurred in the Keith Street car park, shortly after a nearby nightspot had closed.

The investigation is currently ongoing, with a dedicated team of officers conducting extensive enquiries. Detectives say they are keen to track down a white van that was parked in the area, which officers believe is linked to the attack.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the police.

Detective Inspector Gary Smillie said: “This incident happened shortly after a nearby nightclub closed, so we know there were a lot of people and taxis in the area. We would like to speak to anyone who was in the Keith Street area on Saturday night, as well as any taxis or other motorists who may have dashcam footage.

“We recognise that this is an extremely concerning incident and are conducting increased, high-visibility patrols in the area.

“Any information could be vital to our investigation so please call police on 101 quoting incident 0807 of 28 May 2024. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if you wish to remain anonymous.”
