13-year-old black girl attacked by adults on school bus

Texas police have launched an investigation after a 13-year-old student was attacked by adults on a school bus. CBS News Texas Reports.

The girl, who has not been identified because of her age, said the attack began last week just before the bus left Bettye Myers Middle School in Denton.

Before the attack, the teen said there were rumors circulating that a new girl at school wanted to fight her. The girl said she reported the threats to school officials before the attack.

“She said if I didn’t keep her name secret, she would beat me up,” the girl recalled to CBS News Texas.

There was an argument between the two girls on the bus ramp. The teen said the new girl hit her before she fought back.

The 13-year-old student said she later heard her attacker screaming “mom” as an adult joined the fight.

“I wish I had my mom,” said the girl. “Because no one helped me.”

The student said another adult female joined in the attack and placed her in a “chokehold.”

According to the teenager, the two women eventually got off the bus but followed it to their stop and she was attacked again after getting off. The video shows the 13-year-old being beaten on the ground.

The girl’s mother questioned the bus driver’s inaction.

“If he had locked the door, called for help and waited for the police to arrive. These grown adults wouldn’t have been able to get on a bus, attack my child, and they wouldn’t have been able to follow the bus and keep going.” “I attacked them,” the mother said. “And while she (a relative of the girl accused of attacking her on the bus) was out there fighting her, he said he just drove away.”

Denton school officials declined to discuss student discipline due to privacy concerns, but said the new student would not be returning to campus.

“This horrific video shows unacceptable behavior that Denton ISD never tolerates, including the unlawful boarding of an adult on a school bus…Per district policy, the driver immediately called dispatch and requested law enforcement. Drivers are not permitted to use their personal cell phones while driving.” Police responded to this incident and Denton Police are currently conducting an active investigation into an adult’s unlawful boarding of the bus and injured a child,” the school said in a statement.

“Following this situation, traffic officers reached out to the driver, tightened procedures and provided additional training,” the statement continued.

The 13-year-old victim said she was suspended for three days following the incident.

“I feel like Denton ISD has failed my child,” her mother said. “I could be a parent making funeral arrangements if they had a gun and got on a bus with a knife or a gun.”

A Denton police spokesman said the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
