A person has been taken to hospital after a “violent incident” at a pub in Middlesbrough

A person has been taken to hospital following extensive medical intervention following a “violent incident” at a pub in Middlesbrough.

Emergency crews were called to the Jack and Jill pub in Berwick Hills on Saturday. A large cordon was erected around the pub following the incident.

On Sunday morning the barrier was removed and emergency responders confirmed a patient had been taken to hospital, but his condition is unknown.

A spokesman for the North East Ambulance Service said: “We were called to an incident at the Jack and Jill pub on Crossfell Road in Middlesbrough just after 5.40pm last night (Saturday May 11) involving specialist paramedics, a duty officer and the paramedic – including a paramedic and a Cleveland Police officer. One patient was taken to James Cook Hospital.

Witnesses on site reported that a man lying on the ground was being treated by emergency services. Images from the immediate aftermath show a fleet of emergency vehicles and police officers checking on the public.

A cordon was erected around the pub and nearby footpath on Saturday evening and remained in place until late into the night. A Cleveland Police spokesman said: “Cleveland Police are responding to the Jack and Jill pub on Crossfell Road, Middlesbrough, after officers responded to reports of a violent incident which occurred just before 6pm today.”

“Officers will remain at the scene for some time until the full circumstances of the incident are established. The public is urged to avoid the area.”
